PLUG-IN HYBRID

Our new Lexus Plug-In Hybrid technology combines powerful Lexus Self-Charging Hybrid performance with outstanding Electric Vehicle (EV) capability to give you class-leading refinement, electric range and efficiency in both EV and hybrid.

WHAT IS A PLUG-HYBRID?

With a Lexus Plug-in Hybrid there are two power sources: an ultra-smooth petrol engine and a large lithium-ion battery powering the electric motor/generator. Fully charged, a Lexus Plug-in Hybrid can drive in EV mode for more than 64 km and when the battery is depleted, switches to highly-efficient Hybrid mode.

CONVENIENT CHARGING

Plug-in Hybrids charge their lithium-ion battery using a cable attached to the car from a power source. Although the new Lexus NX 450h+ will plug into a normal home socket, a Lexus Wallbox is recommended to provide faster charging.

PIONEERS IN ELECTRIFIED

In order to curb greenhouse gases, and to reach the goal of becoming zero emissions company by 2050, Lexus believes that effective vehicle electrification is essential. Since the launch of the RX 400h in 2005, the world’s first electrified luxury car, Lexus has taken the initiative in developing and promoting the widespread use of eco-friendly Self-charging Hybrids.

As well as reducing the emissions of cars, by 2050 the plan is to achieve zero CO2 emissions from all Lexus manufacturing plants and minimise their water usage.

PROTECTING THE PLANET

Many large towns and cities across the EU have introduced Low Emissions Zones as part of the EU’s mission to become climate neutral.

High emissions vehicles are either prevented from entering the area or charged to do so. Low emissions vehicles like the Lexus Self-Charging Hybrid may enter for free.

REDUCING COSTS

Self-Charging Hybrid vehicles are typically more effective to buy, own and run than an equivalent diesel model.

Significant maintenance savings can be made in the long-term as the hybrid system does not have a clutch, timing belt, starter motor, alternator etc.

Also, replacement parts costs are significantly reduced as Lexus hybrids produce less wear and tear of brake pads and tyres, resulting in further savings.

An annual Hybrid Health Check is the best way to make sure you’re getting the most out of your Lexus Hybrid. The Hybrid Health Check is free of charge, as part of the any Lexus service. But if you aren’t due a service for a while, you can maintain your peace of mind with a stand-alone Hybrid Health Check.
